I'm a high school senior, heading towards doing a bachelor's degree majoring in physics. I enjoy studying physics, math, and history. In my down time, I like watching films, reading, listening to music, and learning about the world.
I use Rust š¦ for most of my programming projects, but I also sometimes code in C, Python, Javascript, and Julia. You can find most of my recent work at my github page here.
Since my taste in films reflects part of who I am, I've attempted to construct a list of all the movies and TV shows I've ever seen over here. I'm trying to start posting film reviews here, but until then, you can check out this page to see what all I've watched. Some of my favorites are 'An Elephant Sitting Still,' 'Taxi Driver,' 'Kai Po Che,' 'The Handmaiden,' 'No Other Choice,' 'Decision To Leave,' 'Lawrence of Arabia,' 'Farewell My Concubine,' 'Behemoth' (directed by Zhao Liang), 'The Day After Tomorrow,' 'Death of Stalin,' 'Mubarakan,' and 'Article 15.' Park Chan-wook is my favorite director -- his films portray loneliness, hatred, violence, and love in an incredible way, and they show a version of the world that corresponds to what I've often felt/seen, in a way very few other films do.
I enjoy reading about history, especially the Cold War era, post-independence India, and West Bengal. I also like discussions about politics (mainly US and Indian) and economics.
I like reading fiction and poetry; some random favorites are Hwang Sok-yong's "Mater 2-10," James Clavell's "Shogun," Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance," Sukanta Bhattacharya's "Lenin," Roberto BolaƱo's "2666," Neruda's "Walking Around," and Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath." BolaƱo is probably my favorite author: his writings reflect a vision of the world I like, in which interestingness and being a good person matter more than money or fame, where failing poets still have a place in the world. His themes and ideas resonate deeply with me, and I like his writing style. Music is a 24/7 presence in my life, usually alternating between rock and kpop. Some rock favorites are Nothing But Thieves (best group ever), The Doors, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Royal Blood, The Black Keys, and Los Prisioneros; a few kpop favorites are NMIXX, izna, NewJeans, Aespa, Hearts2Hearts, RESCENE, and IVE.
I follow many blogs, columnists, youtube channels, etc and think people are better at recommending media than algorithms are. In that spirit, I've begun compiling a list of recommendations over here
